Support the delegated act on C-ITS
Dear honourable Member of the European Parliament,
We cordially ask for your support of the delegated act on C-ITS and thus to reject the motion of objection voted on in the next plenary meeting. This Regulation will create the trusted domain and interoperability urgently needed to save lives on European roads. Further, this regulation complements 5G deployment and contains the important review clause, which enables future connected and automated mobility technology advancements.
The delegated act on C-ITS aims to save lives on roads throughout the European Union. Road safety needs clear and determined regulation to be effective and to create the interoperable system, which is of utmost importance. Rejecting this legislation now will throw Europe into major uncertainty for the unforeseeable future because the new Commission might not bring forward a similar legislation, thus, jeopardizing European harmonization in this area altogether. This would result in additional loss
of lives on European roads, which will have long-term effects1.
The claim that the current Commission proposal is not technology neutral is simply false. The delegated act containing ITS-G5 is not blocking 5G deployment, but complements the 5G strategy of Europe. At this point in time, 5G is still being tested. Once this testing process is complete, 5G can be implemented in the delegated act via the review clause, since road safety, requires tested and proved technology, requirements ITS-G5 fulfils. By adoption of the delegated act and favouring a true hybrid approach, Europe will prevent potential future monopolies and the free market will be strengthened, putting Europe in the driver seat of C-ITS.
The delegated act on C-ITS complements 5G as well as ITS-G5 deployment, as both technologies are a necessity for increasing safety and efficiency of Europe’s roads. It is time to adopt this legislation now.
