While most people are talking about what they’ll be doing for the year-end holidays, I’m looking ahead to early January, when I’ll be in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Yes, part of the reason why I’m focused on January is because I’m involved in the planning and run-up to the show. But I’m also looking forward to the event itself. CES is one of the best places to see and experience the innovations and products that everyone will be talking about for the next twelve months, and, as a tech enthusiast, I look forward to discovering what’s there.
For us here at NXP, CES 2016 promises to be one of our best, most interesting shows yet. Why? Well, it’s exciting because it is the first major conference we will be at after the close of the merger with Freescale. And now we get to begin showing the world what great combined technologies we have. In addition, we’ve created an immersive experience that will highlight just some of the many ways we can use technology to create a more connected, more personal lifestyle, while boosting security, interoperability, and power efficiency.
Stay in or move about
Our booth (CP25, near the entrance to the main CES Pavilion), lets you explore our vision for a smarter world. We treat your CES badge like a wearable device, letting you tap as you enter the exhibit and configure it with a user profile that then personalizes some of demos throughout your “at-home” or “on-the-go” experience.
Create a safe, comfortable private space
The at-home experience includes a living room, bed/bath suite, kitchen, and home gym. In the living room, you can see how sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT) work together to personalize your environment. Our technology reacts to your presence and adjusts lighting, room temperature, and even media channels so they’re just the way you like them. In the bed/bath suite, we introduce smart technologies that improve wellness, simplify life, and increase comfort. The kitchen shows how everyday tasks, from your morning cup of coffee to after-dinner clean-up, can be more automatic, more convenient, and more your style. In the home gym, we’ve got connected devices to help you make the most of your workouts, track your progress, and monitor your well-being.
Travel, play, and explore with confidence
The on-the-go experience includes next-generation automotive technology, personal entertainment, transport, and retail. Our specially designed automotive demonstrator has a special license plate, equipped with RFID technology, that provides secure entry into private spaces, like parking garages and corporate campuses. The demonstrator also previews a whole host of innovative features for secure car access, wireless power charging, infotainment, solid-state lighting, and more. The on-the-go experience also includes cutting-edge personal entertainment devices, such as magnetic induction earbuds and headsets that use FIDO for a authentication. For the retail portion of the experience, your badge lets you “pay” for a purchase, check that a luxury good is authentic, and earn points in a loyalty program. Other options include a sample setup for renting electric bicycles, and something we’re calling “the drone wall.”
When you’re done exploring what we have in the booth, there’s more. Our IoT Truck, a mobile meeting space with more than 130 demos for IoT and smart home, will be parked right outside, so you can go a level deeper into the technology.
It’s a lot to take in. But, we think that’s kind of the point. The smarter world is all around us, and getting more advanced by the day. The NXP CES 2016 booth is our way of showing how technology can enhance life, while at the same time ensuring security, seamless interoperability, and power efficiency.
So plan to visit us at CES 2016 and experience our booth for yourself. I think you’ll agree – there will be lots to talk about in 2016!
