Our vision for the new ARM® Cortex®-M7

Our vision for the new ARM® Cortex®-M7

ARM Cortex-M7 CoreAs a leader in the industry, we recognize the benefits offered by the ARM architecture and has been a strong ARM partner and an early adopter of multiple ARM products. For example, we were first to market with MCUs based on the Cortex-M4 and Cortex-M0+ cores. As a result of this pioneering spirit, we currently have the industry’s broadest range of scalable MCUs based on ARM Cortex-M cores with multiple hardware and software compatible solutions across six unique Kinetis series with features and enablement targeting general purpose and specific applications.

The list of capabilities that our Kinetis MCU portfolio addresses is a look into both the world as we know it and the world that is coming. Kinetis MCUs give developers powerful solutions for a variety of low power and high performance applications, such as: wearables, sensor fusion, audio, building control, factory automation, gaming accessories, smart metering, remote sensing, highly secure point of sale terminals and pinpads, printers, and more.

Looking into the future, the new ARM Cortex-M7 core builds on the proud heritage of the Cortex M-class cores. It delivers up to two times the performance of ARM Cortex-M4 solutions, offering faster connectivity and powerful localized processing for fast-growing markets, opening the doors to more opportunities for our customers.

Among other areas, we’ll leverage the ARM Cortex-M7 processor’s exceptional performance and energy efficiency to enable new applications for power conversion, motor control and industrial automation – providing a migration path to higher performance from today’s mainstream Cortex-M4 applications. The performance, ease of use, and software reuse that Cortex-M ecosystem brings to an application space traditionally dominated by proprietary DSPs, will enable our customers to unleash their creative energies on bringing value to their customers, rather than porting and fine tuning their code over and over again. We are very excited about the future of our Kinetis portfolio and our purposeful roadmap of forthcoming Cortex-M7-based solutions across multiple Kinetis series.
